Paraprofessional for 5th/6th Grade Resource Support

JUNIOR HIGH SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL
JOB SUMMARY
Assist the teacher (s) in the area(s) assigned to maintain and promote an environment in which students may learn effectively.
Reports to Building Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interacts positively with students
Fosters student independence
Provide instructional support assistance to students and student groups
Helps establish and maintain a positive and challenging learning environment
Provides effective behavior management for all students
Treats all students with fairness, respect, and consistency
Uses tact, courtesy, and discretion when working with teachers
Ability to handle confidential information with complete security
Conform to District policy regarding attendance and absences. Employee attendance must be adequate to perform the above listed essential job functions.
Other duties as assigned by building principal
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Not limited to the following:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Must hold a high school diploma or GED AND
Must hold an associate's degree OR
Have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited institution of higher education OR
Must have passed a test of basic skills (currently defined as the ETS Parapro or the ACT
Workkeys)
2. Acceptable criminal background check
3. Ability to communicate effectively in order to follow oral/written directions and specific rules, regulations and processes and apply them to a variety of situation
4. Must demonstrate ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Previous experience in a public school setting
Ability to operate a variety of technology devices
Ability to work independently at routine tasks
Ability to learn special needs of particular individuals
Ability to maintain discipline among students
Ability to conduct learning activities with individual and / or small groups of students
Ability to learn and interpret rules, regulations, laws and instructions
Knowledge of and ability to use English correctly and appropriately
Ability to interact with teachers and student with tact, courtesy, and discretion
Ability to escort and assist children as necessary
Ability to adjust to irregular schedules and unexpected changes in routine
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary is commensurate with the district Paraprofessional Initial Placement Schedule for 2018-19.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
DCSD is a one building PreK-8th grade district serving approximately 550 students with 36 certified staff members and 17 paraprofessionals.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
